Understanding Childhood Vaccination

Vaccination

Vaccination is one of the simplest ways to protect children from several serious infections. Vaccines are given at fixed ages so that protection is built at the right time.

Why the schedule matters

Each vaccine has a recommended age and interval. Following the schedule helps the child get protection at the age when it is most needed. If a dose is delayed, it can usually still be given. Please bring the vaccination card and ask the doctor.

On the day of vaccination

  • Bring the vaccination card every time.
  • Tell the doctor if the child is unwell or has any allergy.
  • Feed the child before the visit unless advised otherwise.
  • Wait at the clinic for a short while after the injection if advised.

After vaccination

  • Mild fever, pain or swelling at the injection site can happen and usually settles in a day or two.
  • Use medicine only as advised by the doctor.
  • Contact the clinic if there is high fever, continuous crying, unusual drowsiness or any reaction that worries you.

Availability

Vaccine availability can change. Please call the clinic before you visit so that we can tell you what is available on that day.
